In 2017, Syrian journalist Hussam AlZaher teamed up with volunteers to establish a platform for people with refugee and migrant backgrounds. He wanted to encourage them to share their perspectives. Even now, this group is still underrepresented in the media. There is a lot of reporting ABOUT them, but not BY them. At kohero, they describe their perspectives, successes, problems, dreams and experiences online (www.kohero-magazin.de), in two print editions per year, in podcasts and newsletters. There are readings, workshops and networking meetings (falafel parties). Since its foundation (then still as ‘Flüchtlingmagazin’ or ‘Refugee Magazine’), kohero has grown steadily.
